Eileen, a native of Cork, is an experienced and highly skilled General Practice Nurse with a rich and diverse background in healthcare. She began her nursing career at Mercy University Hospital, Cork, where she completed her general nurse training and gained invaluable medical and surgical experience. She went on to specialise in Intensive Care Nursing at St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin, and later qualified in Accident and Emergency Nursing through the Royal Victoria Hospital Group in Belfast.
Eileen’s dedication to professional development and patient care has been evident throughout her career. She has held the role of Clinical Nurse Manager 2 in Accident and Emergency for several years, where she demonstrated strong leadership and critical decision-making in high-pressure environments. She has also been a certified instructor in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Nursing Care, sharing her knowledge and expertise with fellow healthcare professionals.
After transitioning to General Practice, Eileen pursued further specialisation in this field, earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Studies (Practice Nursing) from NUI Galway. She became a Clinical Nurse Specialist in General Practice Nursing, focusing on preventive care and chronic disease management. To expand her scope of practice, she qualified as a Registered Nurse Prescriber through University College Cork and earned a Surgical Skills for Healthcare Practitioners qualification from Dublin City University.
Currently, Eileen is a candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner, integrating advanced clinical skills and evidence-based practice into her role. She is completing a Master of Science MSc. in Advanced Nursing Practice at the University of Limerick, further enhancing her ability to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. Her academic pursuits underscore her commitment to lifelong learning and advancing the role of the General Practice Nurse.
Eileen has a particular passion for several areas of healthcare, including care of the older person, diabetes management, cardiovascular health, chronic kidney care, health promotion, and disease prevention. With her extensive experience and compassionate approach, Eileen is committed to providing holistic, patient-centred care that supports individuals at every stage of life.
